25/09/2012 - The fourth edition of the European Week for Waste Reduction will take place between 17 and 25 November 2012. This initiative, which started in 2009 with the support of the European Commission, aims at stimulating and gathering awareness raising actions on waste prevention.

In most countries, registrations are now open (for instance in Brussels since March, in France, Catalonia and Porto Region at the beginning of September), allowing organisations from the 5 following categories to register one or several actions:

27/06/2012 - On 19 June 2012, the awards ceremony for the 2011 European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) took place in Paris before 450 attendees, closing the project’s final conference. The ceremony rewarded the most outstanding awareness-raising actions implemented during the 2011 EWWR, and included a congratulatory message by the EU Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Janez Potočnik.

30/04/2012 - According to sustainability experts involved in the Olympic Park construction programme, London 2012 organisers have missed a significant reuse opportunity. A lack of specific reuse targets meant that contractors were not incentivised to reclaim certain materials such as brick and steel from the demolition process. Furthermore, despite a commitment to a zero waste Olympic games, shops and suppliers at London 2012 will be able to hand out plastic bags to visitors.
